Luminosity is Proud to Partner With UltRank to Present LumiRank

UltRank and Luminosity are excited to be partnering to form LumiRank! LumiRank will continue to bring you the Smash Ultimate ranking content you have come to know and love, including weekly recaps, rankings, and tier lists, but with the backing of Luminosity we’re excited to improve our production and expand our horizons with the resources that Luminosity has at their disposal.

Alongside the activation of the LumiRank partnership, we’re proud to announce LumiRank Mid-Year 2023, the definitive ranking of the top 50 Smash Ultimate players across the globe for the first half of 2023. With almost 1,000 tournaments logged and over 1,500 players qualified, this has been one of Ultimate’s busiest and most competitive years to date, and we’re excited to recognize the players that have put in the effort to rise to the top of the scene.

Keep in mind that all data from this season will also be used for the end-of-year LumiRank, and as such this summer release will be somewhat a halfway checkpoint as we progress through the year.

LumiRank Mid-Year 2023 will be releasing over the next week leading up to Super Smash Con 2023 according to the release schedule below. You can keep up to date with all things LumiRank on our Twitter: https://twitter.com/LumiRank

Honorable Mentions

The following players put up impressive seasons on the level of players in the top 50, but did not make the attendance requirement to be properly ranked.

Mr. 51

Though we initially planned on a top 50 release, the gap between #50 and #51 was so small as to be almost insignificant. Thus, we’d like to recognize this season’s #51:

#51. 26R | Cosmos || Photo: アルファ / Alfa in Japan (@alfa_gorinne)

Cosmos has it rough; it seems like every other week half of Twitter is dunking on him for one reason or another. But it takes a certain amount of grit and love for the game to keep one’s head held high through the social media storm, and Cosmos has shown that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get to the top, even if he has to get through a couple of valleys to get there.

Not many people would follow in Cosmos’s footsteps this season. He’s entered majors playing primarily secondaries with the express purpose of getting high-level bracket experience, completely unconcerned as to the relatively low placings he’d get as a result. His Japanese tour covered more of the country than most Japanese residents could claim to have visited. And along the way, he was still able to put up solid performances, such as a six-set losers run at Genesis 9 through the likes of Kurama and Zomba, as well as additional victories over Big D, Ouch!?, and Kola. Cosmos embodies the true competitor — the player who’s willing to take risks and experiment, the one who doesn’t care about the number next to his name. It’s a rare mentality to find in the modern era, and one that keeps Cosmos relevant even as everyone else is writing him off.
